Initiative encourages proper disposal of equipment of all sizes and brands

Samsung Recicla, Samsung’s reverse logistics program, is one of the company’s initiatives to facilitate the process of recycling old, broken and unused electronic devices, directing these materials to a correct disposal that is beneficial to the environment. In addition to setting goals to reduce its environmental footprint and using components made from recycled materials in the development of its latest mobile devices, Samsung understands the importance of encouraging consumers to adopt increasingly sustainable habits. Therefore, Samsung Recicla offers the possibility of simple and free disposal of electronics and appliances of any brand.

“As Samsung Recycles, people can dispose of notebooks, tablets, smartphones, televisions and even home appliances of any brand, all in an easy and ecologically correct way. For this, the consumer just needs to go to a Samsung store or technical assistance and deposit the small and medium-sized devices in the collection urns. Large products, on the other hand, are collected directly from the consumer’s residence by appointment”, explains Luiz Xavier, senior director of Customer Service at Samsung Brazil. “This is a strategy to take care of the environment jointly and outside our doors. Here, we have other ESG initiatives to take care of the environment, but it is also important that society in general has this concern inside their homes”.

In Brazil since 2017, the reverse logistics program reaches more and more people. Proof of this is that, in the first half of 2023, the initiative recorded a 291% increase in the volume of electronic waste collected compared to the same period of the previous year. In all, there are more than 350 collection points throughout Brazil for small and medium-sized electronics, in addition to scheduling the collection of large appliances of any brand.

Inside the recycling process

Samsung has partners and service providers who are duly qualified and licensed by the competent environmental agencies to treat the materials collected from the ballot boxes and from consumers’ homes. After this first stage, the collected waste is submitted to safe and strict processes of sorting, dismantling, crushing and separating components. Finally, everything that is recyclable is properly processed and transformed by qualified companies, for reinsertion in the production chain as raw material, according to its peculiar characteristics. The remaining material that cannot be recycled is disposed of in an appropriate and environmentally correct manner.
