Samsung announces the launch in France of its XCover 6 Pro, a rugged smartphone designed primarily for professionals and whose technical sheet is neat.
Rarely honored by their less glamorous design and often more sparse features than those of traditional smartphones, rugged smartphones nevertheless constitute a significant volume of sales for the few brands present on this market. Samsung, which claims several hundred thousand units of its kind (smartphones and tablets) sold each year in France, is therefore renewing part of its catalog with the XCover 6 Pro.
If the XCover 6 still has to wait, the Pro model will debut this summer. To attract professionals, in stores and on construction sites, or even individuals looking for a solid terminal, Samsung adorns its smartphone with Gorilla Glass Victus screen protection, but also with traditional MIL-STD-810H certifications (military resistance standard ) and IP68 which add to the resistance to fresh water that to disinfectants. The terminal is logically decked out with a slightly more massive shell than that of traditional smartphones, since it is 9.9 mm thick, but it remains relatively light with its 235 g on the scale. Security is also in the spotlight at the software level, as the Knox service is included, as well as three years of guaranteed software updates, supplemented by five years of security patches. Let’s add that a fingerprint reader is hidden in the ignition key of the smartphone, next to a programmable button.
A modernized technical sheet
For the rest, the Samsung XCover 6 Pro intends to offer the performance of a mid-range terminal. Count on a 6.6-inch Full HD + LCD screen, whose sensitivity Samsung indicates has been revised upwards to facilitate its use with gloves or wet hands. The terminal houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778 chip which includes a 5G modem and whose undeniable efficiency hit the mark last year, with 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a microSD port.
On the photo side, the device relies on a conventional configuration comprising a main sensor of 50 megapixels with a wide-angle lens (f / 1.8) and a second of 8 Mpx with an ultra wide-angle. Everything, under Android 12, is powered by a 4050 mAh battery compatible with 15 W charging which, as is the case with other Samsung smartphones, is no longer delivered with its power supply.
The Galaxy XCover 6 Pro, whose characteristics are all in all close to a mid-range smartphone, justifies its price by its robust design. Count 599 € for this mobile terminal which will be offered in Enterprise Edition, but also available in traditional commercial networks in July 2022.
