Samsung leads the sales chart

Samsung was one of the first Android smartphone makers to offer 5G-enabled wearables to its users. Better, the South Korean brand has made a lot of effort in recent years to stay on top of this market segment. In addition to introducing the technology to its flagship models, the manufacturer has developed 5G smartphones within reach of all budgets.

A choice that is now more than paying off since Samsung is at the start of 2022 firmly in first place in sales of 5 G Android phones.

Five Samsung smartphone models in the February 2022 ranking

Counterpoint Research has released for the month of February 2022, the Handset Model Sales Tracker data. These indicate a notable dominance of Samsung-branded devices in the 5G smartphone ranking.

They alone represent 24% of the sales of portables of this type recorded in the world in February 2022. To achieve this, the South Korean manufacturer has mainly bet on five models of Android 5G phones. This is the Galaxy A52s 5G, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy A32 5G and Galaxy A22 5G.

The first four smartphones on the list occupy the first four places in the ranking in the same order. Incidentally, this demonstrates that the choice made by Samsung to offer entry-level 5G-enabled devices like the Galaxy A13 5G is paying off.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A52s which took first place in the ranking in February 2022 has just finished in the top 10 in sales for the sixth consecutive month. A performance allowed thanks to the Western European market where the laptop is still very popular.

Only Chinese competition

Even though Samsung smartphones dominate the ranking, they are far from the only ones that sold well in February 2022. Some Chinese manufacturers like Oppo, Xiaomi, Vivo and Honor also managed to do well.

Honor, for example, managed to place two Android 5G models in the top 10. These include the Honor 60 and the Honor X30. The other Chinese manufacturers, on the other hand, have managed to position only one of their models in the 10 best smartphones in this market segment. These four Chinese brands also dominate the Chinese market, which now offers a 5G penetration rate estimated at 83%.

However, this Chinese competition has no interest in resting on its laurels at the risk of seeing Samsung further increase its lead. The manufacturer recently unveiled the Galaxy A53 5G and the Galaxy A33 5G which are two devices whose features should appeal to more users than their predecessors.

Finally, it should be noted that in general, Android smartphones account for 67% of 5G portable sales recorded in February 2022. For their part, the ten best-selling 5G Android devices total 20% of sales during the month.
