Samsung launches Galaxy S23 line with up to 200MP camera

A Samsung today launched its new line of top-of-the-line smartphones: the Galaxy S23as well as the S23 Plus it’s the S23 Ultra. They don’t have big news compared to the previous generation, but still have some interesting features that weren’t available on the S22 line, as well as improvements in some aspects when compared to last year’s devices.

Some of the highlights are the 200 megapixels of the S23 Ultra (the most advanced of the line), a special edition of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, in addition to an image processor with the use of artificial intelligence. Stabilization has also received increments, as well as video recording in 8K resolution, along with new features such as 360º audio capture.

We also had the launch of Galaxy Book3which includes the models Ultra, Pro e Pro 360the latter with the screen capable of opening in 360°.

The notebooks have several resources for integration with Samsung smartphones, featuring 14 or 16-inch screens, Intel processors and NVIDIA graphics chips.

Let’s get to know the Galaxy S23 in more detail?

Galaxy S23 e S23 Plus

The two smaller devices are quite similar. The differences, at least at first glance, are in the size of the screen and the battery. The S23 has a 6.1″ display, while the S23 Plus has a 6.6″ display — both with Full HD+ resolution, as well as a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Brightness tops out at 1,750 nits and both screens are covered by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The devices have three cameras, which are not joined by a single module, being in three different protuberances. The main one has 50MP and aperture ƒ/1.8, while the telephoto sensor has 10MP and aperture ƒ/2.4 (with 3x optical zoom); the ultra-wide-angle camera is 12MP, aperture ƒ/2.2 and angle of 120°. The front sensor, in turn, has 12MP and aperture ƒ/2.2.

As said, the devices have the Snapdragon 8 Gen chip, which, according to Samsung, guarantee 30% more performance than the previous model and 40% graphics performance. The batteries have 3,900mAh in the smaller model and 4,700mAh in the larger one. The S23 charges wired at up to 25W, while the larger one goes up to 45W; the devices have chargers included in the box, say.

The phones are available in black, cream, green and violet colors. The back includes materials from recycled PET bottles, while the SIM card tray is made from recycled aluminum. They have IP68 water and dust resistance certification, as well as Wi-Fi 6E support and connection to 5G mobile networks — all running Android 13, of course.

The Galaxy S23, with 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage, costs R$6.000; its bigger brother, with the same 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage, R$7.000 — and yes, the launch this time was global, already including Brazil.

Galaxy S23 Ultra

The most advanced model in the line has, compared to the other two, a better display, more battery and better cameras. The screen is 6.8″, with QuadHD + resolution, in addition to a 120Hz refresh rate and screen protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass, of course.

We have, in Ultra, four cameras: the main one has an incredible 200MP and aperture ƒ/1.7, the other two (ultra-wide and telephoto) are identical to those of the other models. There is, however, a second telephoto, also 10MP, but with aperture ƒ/4.9, which is capable of 10x optical zoom.

With its great resolution, the S23 Ultra’s system combines six pixels from the larger sensor into one to generate the final result, so quality and low-light performance are increased.

One of the most interesting differentiators of the larger device is the S Pen. In the past, Samsung had a line (named Note) dedicated to this feature, but since last year, the most advanced device in the S line has the stylus. It can be used to make notes, drawings, among other utilities, with sensitivity to pressure levels, in addition to being integrated into the device, with a space to store it at the bottom when not in use.

The S23 Ultra’s battery has 5,000mAh and it supports charging at up to 45W, wired or wireless. The device, like the others, also runs Android 13. It costs, in its version with 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage, R$9.500.
