Samsung persists and signs in the field of smartphones with foldable screens. The South Korean brand unveiled its Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 on July 26, with some interesting new features for these formats.
This is the rendezvous of the summer for Samsung enthusiasts. The Korean giant held its traditional summer “unpacked” to reveal the new members of the Galaxy family. And if spring is usually reserved for the Galaxy S, it is the Galaxy Z and their foldable screens that are displayed in July. The brand has thus renewed the Z Flip and the Z Fold. Pre-orders are open for marketing from August 11th.

It is the darling of the Z range at Samsung. The Flip 5 is certainly more affordable – it starts at 1,199 euros – than its big brother the Fold 5, but it is also one of the most attractive from a design and practicality point of view. So for 2023, Samsung has chosen to slightly modernize its latest addition, offering it a much larger front screen and allowing better interactions.
Here we go to a 3.4-inch (60 Hz) Amoled screen, compared to 1.9 inches for the Flip 4, with a small design effect offering a recess around the photo block. Above all, you can now display most applications there so as not to have to open and therefore unfold your phone each time. At the same time, the internal screen covers an area of 6.7 inches when unfolded, with better brightness. In the bowels, the Flip 5 inherits a Snapdragon 8 Gen processor from Qualcomm, with an interface under Android 13. Finally, the battery remains at 3,700 mAh compared to the Flip 4, but optimizations should make it possible to offer better autonomy , we promise at Samsung.
Finally, the brand has made an interesting new effort on the side of the hinge that equips this flip smartphone. Indeed, and unlike previous models, once closed the Flip 5 leaves no more space at the joint. A little more significant when it is stored in a bag by limiting in particular the possibility that a grain of sand, a coin or a key can not rub the internal screen. Thus, the S Pen is present, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, 12 MB of RAM, a 4,400 mAh battery … Interesting specificities for this model which will take advantage of the advantages of Android 13 as soon as it is released. Finally, the photo block is not left out, with a main lens of 50 Mpixels (f / 1.8), an ultra wide-angle (12 Mpx, f / 2.2) and a telephoto lens (10 Mpx sensor , f/2.4 for a 3x zoom).
