Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 battery size revealed

Samsung is preparing to equip the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The company is one of the few companies that sells more than one foldable smartphone each year with distinct form factors. While the Z Fold series brings devices that turn into tablets, the Z Flip is essentially a modern clamshell smartphone with a foldable screen. The Galaxy Z Fold is usually fancier thanks to its larger form factor upon its unveiling. The design of the Galaxy Z Flip series faces even greater challenges because it is smaller and more limited. This explains why the Galaxy Z Flip’s battery remains small when compared to its sibling. Samsung is trying to improve the situation, but the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will only achieve slight upgrade compared to its predecessor.

Back in the last year, reports surfaced telling us that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 would arrive with the same battery capacity as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. Now, a new report from Dutch publication GalaxyClub has stated that Samsung has managed to equip a little bigger battery. According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes with two batteries. The device was certified with model number SM-F721 and should be released alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4 at an Unpacked event in August.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 with 3400 mAh battery

Both batteries have model codes EB-B721ABY and EB-BF722ABY. The former is referred to by Samsung internally as a “sub battery” but intriguingly the larger of the two is with a capacity of 2,400mAh. Meanwhile, the latter is the “main battery” of the phone with a total capacity of 903 mAh. Therefore, the phone is listed with a total rated capacity of 3,303 mAh. That’s 103 mAh more than the total rated capacity of the Galaxy Z Flip 3. It’s worth noting that even with a 3,200 mAh battery, Samsung is using the model numbers for marketing purposes. So the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is sold as a smartphone with a 3300 mAh battery. So, we expect the Galaxy Z Flip 4 to get the same treatment. Thus, it will be sold with a larger 3,400mAh battery.

Back in 2014 to 2015, this would be a “giant” battery. However, the capacity of smartphone batteries has evolved significantly over the past few years. Nowadays, it is common to have phones with capacities of 4500, 5000 mAh, and even 6000 mAh. Therefore, the old 3000 is considered small. Anyway, it’s nowhere near the iPhone 12 mini with its lukewarm battery below 2000 mAh. Perhaps Samsung will find a way to improve the software and provide good endurance to the smartphone.

It’s worth noting that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has also been revealed regarding its battery capacity. The Korean company expects the Flip and Fold to outperform their predecessors in sales.
