Samsung Electronics declared war on the mid-to-low-end smartphone market by unveiling the new Galaxy A series priced at 500,000 won on the 17th. It is expected to clash with Chinese smartphones in emerging markets such as Southeast Asia, including the iPhone SE3, which was recently released by Apple.

Samsung Electronics held the ‘Samsung Galaxy A Event 2022’ event online at 11 pm on the same day and unveiled two models, the new mid-range phones ‘Galaxy A53 5G’ and ‘Galaxy A33 5G’. The Galaxy A series is a representative mid- to low-end smartphone lineup with lower performance and lower prices.

The Galaxy A53 5G is equipped with four (quad) cameras, including a 64-megapixel primary camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) on the back. In addition, a 6.5-inch (inch) Super AMOLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate (reproduced screens per second) is also mounted. The A33 5G has a 6.4-inch display and a 48-megapixel primary camera.

Both models are equipped with a new 5nm (nanometer) processor to enhance their camera capabilities, a ‘photo remaster’ function that corrects low-quality or old photos, and an ‘AI (artificial intelligence) eraser that cleanly removes unnecessary objects taken together ‘ also entered the Galaxy A series for the first time.

Samsung Electronics is expected to actively target emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and India with the Galaxy A series at the forefront. Earlier, Apple also introduced a new mid-range lineup, the iPhone SE3, on the 9th, and a battle for dominance was foretold. However, as foreign media including the Washington Post (WP) criticize the performance of the iPhone SE3 camera, etc., there are also observations that it will be a lighter game than expected.

Roh Tae-moon, head of the MX business (President), who was appointed as an inside director at the regular shareholders’ meeting held the day before, said, “Everyone should be able to enjoy excellent mobile technology in their daily life. It will make the experience more valuable.”

In Korea, only the A53 5G model will be officially released on the 1st of next month. The pre-sale will be held for 7 days from the 18th to the 24th of this month. It will be released in three colors, Awesome Blue, Awesome Black, and Awesome White, and is priced at 599,500 won.

The A73 model, which was initially expected with high-performance specifications among the A series, was not unveiled at the event. It is expected to be released in the second half of the year in the IT (information technology) industry.
