Prosecutors have requested arrest warrants for a former Samsung Electronics manager and former employees of an affiliated company on charges of transferring Korean semiconductor technology to a Chinese company.

Key information on the DRAM technology of Samsung Electronics, the world’s No. 1 company, was leaked.

Prosecutors believe the damage will amount to trillions of won.

In addition, we are expanding the investigation as we believe that subcontractor employees also systematically participated in this technology leak.

First, this is an exclusive report by reporter Park Sol-nip.

‘Changshin Memory’ was established in 2016 and has been the only DRAM producer in China since 2020.

Last month, it was announced that it had developed China’s first 5th generation ultra-low power DRAM.

It is evaluated that the technological gap with Korean companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix has been reduced to less than 5 years.

The prosecution requested an arrest warrant for former Samsung Electronics manager Mr. Kim on charges of transferring our semiconductor technology to Changshin Memory.

Former Manager Kim, who quit Samsung Electronics eight years ago, is known to have worked for ‘Changshin Memory’ and been involved from the beginning of its establishment.

Prosecutors believe that former Director Kim handed over Samsung Electronics’ core 18-nano DRAM technology.

The prosecution also requested an arrest warrant for Mr. Bang, a former employee of a semiconductor equipment company affiliated with Samsung Electronics, believing he was involved in the technology leak.

Prosecutors believe that the simple damage from technology leaks alone amounts to trillions of won.

Even if competition to make smaller semiconductors slows down in the market, the actual damage in the future could be tens of trillions of won as the technology gap narrows to enable mass production of nano-scale DRAM, according to the prosecution’s judgment.

In particular, the prosecution believes that in addition to the two people, dozens of working-level personnel, including those from subcontractors, were involved in the technology leak.

Whether or not the two key figures will be detained will be decided after review by the court the day after tomorrow.
