Samsung Electronics finally updates ‘GOS’ that lowers game performance on Galaxy S22

Samsung Electronics has decided to accept complaints from consumers that the performance of the Galaxy S22 series is forcibly lowered when certain apps such as games are running.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 4th that it will update the software so that users can choose whether to apply the ‘Game Optimization Service (GOS)’ function of the Galaxy S22 series through Samsung Members.

In order to provide a performance priority option in the ‘Game Booster Lab’ in the game launcher app, an update will be implemented as soon as possible. The specific method will be provided separately. Currently, the GOS function works automatically when the game app is started, but when this update is applied, a separate ‘performance mode’ is added and the user can select it.

GOS is a function that artificially lowers performance, such as lowering the screen resolution by adjusting the performance of the graphic processing unit (GPU) when running games that require high-performance computation. It also reduces the computational burden and prevents the smartphone from overheating.

This action comes in response to complaints from some consumers that when running games on the Galaxy S22, the device slows down or the screen graphics are not smooth.

Samsung Electronics installed GOS on Galaxy smartphones before the Galaxy S22, but users who want to enjoy high-performance games on their smartphones could disable GOS using paid apps.

However, this Galaxy S22 series was made obligatory to install GOS with the One UI 4.0 update, and as this GOS could not be deleted even with a detour, such as a paid app, complaints from consumers who wanted to maintain high performance arose.

Samsung Electronics said, “The application of GOS follows the policy of putting consumer safety first, but we have decided to promptly accept some users’ complaints.” And we will do our best to protect consumers.”
