Samsung plans to launch Galaxy phones with custom chips
A recent report from Business Korea notes that Samsung plans to develop a dedicated application processor (AP) for its mobile phones Galaxy that will arrive by 2025, currently Samsung uses an AP developed by Samsung Electronics’ DS Division on Exynos chips. This idea of developing its custom chips was taken more seriously by the company after the problems of the Galaxy S22 with the game optimization service (GOS), as the firm plans to develop an AP with high performance and low power consumption.
Apple uses its own AP on its iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch and MacBooks, this makes the OS and software on these devices highly compatible. Another reason why Samsung Electronics wants to develop its AP is that there is a “crisis” growth in the Device Solution business division, which is in charge of semiconductors, and in the MX (Movil Experience) business division, which is in charge of mobile devices.
