Former head of department Choi and former deputy director Jang were also considered for the first round of parole at the jury held on the 15th, but it is known that the decision was put on hold.
The two were sentenced to two years and six months in prison with Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong on charges of bribery and other charges. A person sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment under the Criminal Code can be eligible for parole after serving one-third of his sentence. The two have fulfilled the conditions for parole as their sentences will end in January next year. Vice Chairman Lee was released on parole last year on Liberation Day.
Former Liberty Korea Party lawmaker Choi Kyung-hwan, who was sentenced to five years in prison for receiving 100 million won as a bribe from the National Intelligence Service during the Park Geun-hye administration, is also known to have been named on the second screening list.
