Samsung announces new name for its recycling program

Samsung announces that Samsung Recycles is the new brand for the company’s reverse logistics program. Present in Brazil since 2017 under the name Re+, the change aims to bring the program even closer to people, not only to promote ecologically correct recycling, but also to increase engagement and awareness related to environmental issues. In this way, Samsung reinforces its commitment to encourage small changes in everyday life, thus generating a large and positive impact on society, within the vision of “Everyday Sustainability”. In 2022, the program increased the amount of electronic waste collected in Brazil by 164% compared to 20211. This result reinforces the company’s commitment to creating actions to boost investment in more sustainable production processes, as well as more conscious consumption by consumers and society in general. For this, Samsung has partners and service providers duly qualified and licensed by the main environmental agencies”.

Now, under the new name Samsung Recicla, Samsung’s initiative enables consumers to dispose of electronic devices of any brand correctly and appropriately, avoiding damage to the environment. Samsung makes collection boxes for products available at its stores and service centers.2 small and medium-sized products such as batteries, chargers, smartphones, headphones, tablets, notebooks and televisions under 40 inches. To dispose of large products such as refrigerators, washers, stoves, appliances and TVs over 40 inches, consumers can request collection at their own residence.

“Reintroducing recycled materials as raw materials into our production processes is one of Samsung’s main commitments to sustainability. The definition of a new brand for the recycling program reinforces this movement of fostering responsible attitudes towards the environment”, says Luiz Xavier, senior director of Customer Service at Samsung Brazil. “At the same time, we are working on actions to raise the awareness of our consumers so that, together, we can make increasingly conscious decisions for the benefit of the planet”.

In addition to the reverse logistics program, Samsung is dedicated to bringing sustainability to its production processes as well. During Galaxy Unpacked 2023, which took place in early February, the company announced that the Galaxy S23 lineup advances Samsung’s commitment to sustainability, using more recycled materials than any other Samsung Galaxy smartphone.3. Since the Galaxy S22 line, Samsung has increased the use of recycled materials from six internal components in the Galaxy S22 Ultra to 12 internal and external components in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. In addition, the newly launched notebooks in the Galaxy Book3 line – Galaxy Book3 Ultra and Pro – contain recycled plastics that use fishing nets and water barrels discarded in the ocean.4.

Samsung’s recycling program is in line with Brazilian consumer behavior. A survey commissioned by Samsung from MindMiners shows that 94% of respondents consider the habit of recycling to be important and are concerned regarding the impact on the environment.
