This Tuesday (26), the Samsung announced the completion of the development of the first Low Power Compression Attached Memory Module (LPCAMM) RAM memory modules. The new products promise to deliver a huge leap forward for the industry.

According to Samsung, the new modules are capable of delivering speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps. There is a 50% improvement in performance and an increase in energy efficiency of up to 70%, compared to traditional So-DIMM models.

Furthermore, the components of this new standard promise to be 60% smaller than traditional combs, meaning they take up much less space. This characteristic is important as it should allow the part to be inserted into thinner and lighter devices.

Samsung also highlighted that the new modules are detachable and can be used within devices more easily. However, manufacturers can still choose to solder LPCAMM components directly to the motherboard.

LPCAMM RAM memories will maintain the dual-channel format with options of 32, 64 and up to 128 GB. So far, Samsung has certified components only in systems with processors Intelbut other hardware manufacturers must also be validated.

Therefore, the devices AMD, Qualcomm e Apple must also be certified. LPCAMM RAM memory modules in the DDR5 protocol are scheduled to begin selling to all companies from 2024.
