The number of megapixels continues to increase on smartphones in Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra range. After a 108 Mpx photo sensor with the Galaxy S20 Ultra and S21 Ultra and 200 Mpx on the Galaxy S22 Ultra and S23 Ultra, Samsung is reportedly developing a 400 Mpx model for a future generation.
A 432 Mpx main sensor for the Galaxy S Ultra
In recent publication Twitter/X, the leaker Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) indeed mentions that Samsung would be working on two ultra-high-resolution 432 Mpx sensors:
L’ISOCELL HW1 (1/1.05″ + 0.56µm) ;
L’ISOCELL HW2 (1/1.07″ , 0.5µm).
Thus, these first sensors of the “HW” series would measure almost an inch and double the resolution of the current sensor of the Galaxy S22 and S23 – the 200 Mpx ISOCELL HM2. No information yet specifies how this change will affect the photo and video quality of the next Galaxy S Ultra.
Concerning the first model concerned by a 432 Mpx sensor, Revegnus simply specifies in another post that the 200 Mpx HM2 sensor will be used at Samsung until the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Thus, we would have to wait until the start of 2027 to discover the first model incorporating this new photo component: the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
In addition to this information, the leaker revealed that the 50 Mpx ISOCELL GN3 main sensor of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5 will persist on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. According to him, we would have to wait until 2025 to see the arrival of the ISOCELL S5KHP5 sensor. 200 Mpx on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
