First revealed at Samsung’s booth at CES 2024, the Odyssey 3D is the Korean giant’s first glasses-free 3D PC monitor. It’s now making its way to Europe at Gamescom as its launch approaches.
A direct competitor to the Acer Predator SpatialLabs View 27, among others, the Samsung Odyssey 3D is a PC monitor with 3D display technology, announced in 27 and 32 inches. Presented for the first time at CES 2024, on the Samsung stand, the screen is this time exhibited in Cologne as part of Gamescom. A good way to prepare the ground for a marketing expected before the end of the year, but the terms of which have still not been specified.
At this stage, we therefore do not know the precise release date of this new product, as well as its price positioning in Europe. Fortunately, the broad outlines of its technical specifications are already known.

For example, we know that the Odyssey 3D is based on QLED technology (and therefore probably on a VA panel), and that it reaches a display frequency of 165 Hz for a response time of only 1 ms. In the absence of offering Nvidia G-Sync certification (which should become more common in the future), Samsung’s 3D monitor is AMD FreeSync Premium certified. However, we do not know what its maximum luminance is, as this element has not yet been communicated by Samsung.
Source : SamsungThe main interest of this screen is, as you will have understood, to offer a 2D / 3D conversion using eye tracking technology. The Odyssey 3D has two cameras for this purpose, which allow the displayed images to be adjusted in real time in order to generate a three-dimensional effect, taking advantage of the “view-mapping” technique. At the same time, Samsung is banking on a lenticular coating fixed to the front of the screen to display two slightly different images, one for the left eye and the other for the right eye, thus achieving the desired 3D effect.
Samsung explains that this technique allows you to convert “traditional” 2D content into 3D, but also to play VR games directly on the monitor, without a virtual reality headset. Of course, it is still possible to switch from 3D to 2D in one click to avoid fatigue, or if you want to work in office automation on the screen, for example.
Finally, in terms of connectivity, the Odyssey includes two HDMI 2.1 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4 input. There is also a height and tilt adjustable stand.
