In the semiconductor market largely dominated by TSMC, the preferred partner of Apple, Samsung does not intend to let it go. The South Korean founder announced a grand plan which should lead it to produce 1.4 nm chips from 2027. similar to TSMC.
In addition, proof of its ambition, Samsung intends to triple its production capacity for advanced nodes, such as 3 nm and what will follow. The founder intends to respond in particular to the growing demand in the fields of supercomputers, artificial intelligence, 5G/6G and the automobile.
According to Counterpoint, TSMC takes 56% of the semiconductor market, followed by Samsung (13%), UMC (8%), GlobalFoundries (6%), SMIC (6%) and the rest. Samsung produced system-on-chips for iPhones up to l’A9 de l’iPhone 6s. The Korean then was ousted completely by TSMC.
