Following his reference to the issue of same-sex couples, he argued that things are more difficult in conservative-traditional societies. “Yes, times are changing, societies are transforming, but there are also some limits.” emphasized the Metropolitan. “We need to keep our ears open in our society. Our society was not ready.he added.
“Whether it should be done or not is another matter. It should not have been done now because society was divided. This can be seen from the opinion polls that took place, but also from the fact that the country’s political forces, from the Left to the Right, you see, united on this issue, voting against the bill.
Of course, as you know, here in the province the societies are more conservative and more traditional. Here in Pieria, at least 3 out of 4 MPs did not vote for the bill. The two voted against while one abstained. It wasn’t the right weather. I have studied. I have lived abroad, we knew this from there, times change, societies are transformed but there are also some limits.
We have to keep our ears open in society. Society was not ready. It may not be seen so much in the big cities where there is impersonality, but here in the local communities people had a great reaction. But we are also in a difficult position.
For example, the other day, a member of parliament who abstained from the process of passing the bill went to a memorial service, in the temple, and the people got into trouble with the pope. How can the priest expel someone from the church? Let him be the worst man. All this, therefore, created some extremes. It wasn’t good at the time it happened.”
The meeting of the Metropolitan of Kitros Katerinis and Platamonas, Georgios with the journalists took place in the context of the invitation of the Pieria Organization for Tourism Development and Promotion (P.O.T.A.P.) in order to highlight the wider area of Pieria.
