Rescue and social organization celebrates milestone anniversary with ceremony and open day
Vienna (OTS) – On Saturday, May 13, 2023, the headquarters in Kirchbichl formed the festive setting for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Samaritan Association in Tyrol. In the followingnoon, the Tyrolean Samaritans invited to an open day with a large exhibition. The visitors were particularly enthusiastic regarding the helicopter demonstrations and the appearance of a mantrail rescue dog team. Free blood pressure and blood sugar checks as well as information on first-aid courses were also offered on the “Gesundheitsstrasse”. The youngest guests, on the other hand, enjoyed the varied children’s program.
An impressive success story
In the morning, a ceremony was held to review the first 20 years of the Tyrolean Samaritan Association. Numerous politicians, above all LRin Astrid Mair, LRin Eva Pawlata, State Deputy Claudia Hagsteiner and District Governor Christoph Platzgummer, representatives of friendly blue light and aid organizations and high-ranking Samaritan delegations from all over Austria celebrated together with the Tyrolean Samaritans.
“Considering that we started with just a handful of people in 2003, our presence today is proof of an amazing track record. After 20 years of hard work, we have more than 300 employees in Tyrol who fulfill our social mission in all our areas,” state managing directors Gerhard Czappek and Gerald Fitz drew a positive balance. And further: “The Tyrolean Samaritan Association is the best example of what is possible when everyone pulls together. It’s nice to see how togetherness and the team spirit lead to success here in Tyrol, even in difficult situations.”
The president of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Austria, LAbg Franz Schnabl, congratulated personally on the milestone anniversary: “The history of the Samaritan-Bund in Tirol is also a story of tireless commitment and cohesion. What the Tyrolean Samaritans have achieved over the past 20 years is unique in our country.”
Extensive range of services
In addition to rescue and patient transport, outpatient family care has been an important task for ten years. The educational director Bettina Leitner points out that almost 5,000 clients have been supported in the past. The seven teams are on the road in almost all Tyrolean districts to take measures to support families with their upbringing and to prevent possible escalations.
There was a marked increase in the training area: where there were initially 10-20 courses to be attended, there are now more than 150 a year. Around 20,000 people have been trained in a wide variety of first aid courses. Paramedic courses were held in the training center and, for the first time, a joint course for prospective paramedics from the Samaritan Association, the Red Cross and Johanniter Unfallhilfe was held.
The Samaritans were able to record a gratifying increase in the youth group. Almost 30 children and young people are active in several age groups and learn regarding rescue work through fun and games. In addition to the rescue service, voluntary commitment is offered primarily with the medical services at sports and music events and with the crisis intervention team – also in the areas of disaster relief, Samaritan wish trips and mantrailing with the rescue dogs.
