The coalition pact negotiated for the next five years comprises 60 pages and is entitled “Salzburg – together and safely into a stable future”. The four ÖVP and three FPÖ government members will be sworn in on June 14 at the constitutive session of the newly elected state parliament.

In addition to Haslauer and Svazek, the future team on the ÖVP side consists of the state councilors Stefan Schnöll (future deputy state governor) and Josef Schwaiger as well as state councilor Daniela Gutschi. On the FPÖ side, from the Mayor of Radstadt and former member of the National Council Christian Pewny and Martin Zauner, who previously worked as a manager at Salzburg AG.

“Common project”

For the first time since proportional representation was abolished in 1999, the FPÖ has assumed government responsibility in Salzburg. After Upper and Lower Austria, Salzburg is the third federal state with a black and blue government.

Right at the beginning, Haslauer once more admitted that he originally had other plans following the election, namely an “Alliance for Salzburg” made up of the ÖVP, FPÖ and SPÖ. But this did not come regarding. The road to the new government “wasn’t easy,” as Haslauer said on Friday.

Provincial electoral authority of Salzburg

The coalition negotiations between the ÖVP and FPÖ lasted three weeks – and were once described by Svazek as constructive, objective, goal-oriented and efficient. The government program that has now been decided is a “joint project” and both sides “are also behind this project in terms of content,” said Haslauer at the presentation of the new government. Among other things, Svazek spoke of “working together on solutions”, which ultimately resulted in a “joint work”.

Presentation of the distribution of departments

In Salzburg, ÖVP Governor Wilfried Haslauer and Neo-Vice Governor Marlene Svazek (FPÖ) also announced the distribution of departments in the new state government on Friday.

Asylum quarters remain with ÖVP

There are definitely surprises in the allocation of departments. The FPÖ is responsible for the social sector, but not for asylum quarters. The distribution in detail: As governor, Haslauer is responsible for the areas of finance, security and civil protection, among other things. Swazek becomes deputy governor and, in addition to nature and environmental protection, also takes over the departments responsible for elementary education and childcare as well as youth, family and integration.

Schnöll’s area of responsibility ranges from business, tourism, the labor market, infrastructure, transport to culture. As state councillor, Schweiger is responsible for agriculture, water, energy and the “special organization for asylum and displaced persons quarters”. Gutschi is responsible for education, health and the area of women, diversity and equal opportunities.

In the case of Pewny, the Salzburg state government portal lists social affairs, food safety and consumer protection as well as regional development and apprenticeship promotion. Finally, as a new face in the new state government, Zauner takes over, among other things, regional planning, housing and sports.

Subsidized housing, renewables, wolves

Haslauer named the living area as one of the most pressing problems for the new government, and the housing subsidies are being reorganized. “We have to build more subsidized housing so that the pressure is taken off the free market.” He also announced a new platform with the aim of getting more nurses.

In the field of renewable energy, there will be an acceleration of the process for the construction of new plants “right now”. They do not want to abolish the state environmental ombudsman, “however, we will redefine the competences,” says Haslauer, and in nature conservation, when it comes to the question of public interest, “things have to be brought into balance”.

He also announced innovations for dealing with “problem wolves”: In future, areas are to be defined where wolves can be “removed” without notice in certain cases.

He named the mobility turnaround, the area of health and hospitals, the modernization of the festival district, regional planning and the Ski World Cup 2025 in Saalbach-Hinterglemm as a central, joint project of the new government as further priorities. In addition, the new government will quickly give the green light for the expansion of the Europark shopping center, which has so far not been approved by a No from the Greens.

A few days before that, the “Salzburg Alliance once morest Black and Blue” was formed in the art district in the city of Salzburg – with around 20 participating organizations.
