Hermann Neubauer and his co-pilot Ursula Mayrhofer found a seriously injured man on the side of the road and did everything right.

Hermann Neubauer lost the fight for the national championship title once morest defending champion Simon Wagner at the Bucklige World Rally in Krumbach. Together with co-pilot Ursula Mayrhofer, he became a lifesaver on the sightseeing trip for the season finale in Lower Austria.

“After our last special test inspection, I briefly looked over at Ursi because of the letter. Then out of the corner of my eye I noticed something on the ground next to the state road in front of a house. ‘I think someone is lying there now,’ I said to her. There “We had already passed the building. Then it gave us no peace and we turned around,” recalls Neubauer.

When they arrived at the scene once more, they found a 69-year-old man who was barely conscious and lying in a huge pool of blood. “Ursi immediately professionally got the gentleman into a stable position and I called the emergency services. A short time later the rescue team arrived and took him to the hospital in Oberwart,” says the Lungauer.

As it was discovered at the hospital, the rally duo had arrived just in time. The man had already lost a significant amount of blood due to a ruptured artery. The day following the (unfortunately lost) rally, Neubauer’s phone rang. At the other end of the line, the rescued person spoke up and thanked him for the help: “According to the doctor, without your quick intervention, I would no longer be alive.” That made the missed title almost forgotten.
