Salzburg League: Top teams don’t give out gifts – Puch quartet before departure

Seekirchen, Grödig and Hallein celebrate clear victories before the winter break. That ruined many a farewell party. Only Eugendorf cheered twice.

Eugendorf gave club icon Manuel Ramspacher a fitting farewell on Friday – and scored important points in the Salzburg league’s relegation battle with a 2-0 home win once morest Golling. “A great finish with a well-deserved victory,” says sports director Christof Kopleder. Two other kickers who ended their careers cannot say the same. Wet, cold and opponents who didn’t give out any gifts – Henndorf’s Nicholas Mannie and Puch’s Mersudin Jukic didn’t celebrate a football festival with points at the end.

In Seekirchen the rain at least fit the motto of the Henndorf farewell party. The duel is called the Umbrella Derby because of a legendary abandoned game 55 years ago. Umbrellas were also brought onto the field on Fridays – this time not carried by angry spectators, but by the running kids.

The first neighborhood duel in 22 years clearly went to the favored host. Seekirchen mercilessly shot down Henndorfer, who lost for the fifth time in a row, 6-0 and thus remained second in the table over the winter. “A one-sided game,” says victorious coach Mario Lapkalo. Henndorf’s section leader Sebastian Lindlbauer admits: “Seekirchen was a lot too big for us.”

Only a few spectators got lost in the rainy Grödig. Among them was Andreas Fötschl, who was only a guest in the stands following resigning as Puch coach. Under Nihat Aslan, Mersudin Jukic Puch’s captain’s armband was returned. In his last game before switching to the coaching role, the attacker and his team were hopelessly overwhelmed with a 4-0 defeat. The Grödigers played cat and mouse with the Tennengauers, who have several players willing to leave in the ranks with Julian Vincetic, Nemanja Peric, Niklas Preslmayr and David Sandic, who is probably moving to Elixhausen.

There are also many personnel question marks in Hallein. The fourth-place team in the table, who signed ex-Kuchler Florian Kiss, left no doubts on the pitch on Friday. “One of the better performances of the season,” said coach Christoph Lessacher following the 3-0 win once morest the recently strong Straßwalchner. Their sports director Markus Chuboba emphasizes: “We missed the beginning and weren’t really compelling followingwards either.”
