Salzburg has found its way back to success in the Bundesliga ahead of its first home appearance in the Champions League. Oscar Gloukh was the decisive man in the deserved 2-0 (1-0) against Vienna Austria on Saturday with his brace (10th/foul penalty, 88th). Coach Pepijn Lijnders’ team still showed a promising performance three days before the game against Stade Brest. After losing points, Salzburg is at the top of the table.
With two games less than their direct competitors Sturm and Rapid, the third-placed runner-up is three points behind the Graz team in front. The series against a favorite opponent in the league held. Salzburg remained unbeaten against Austria in the 19th league game in a row and achieved their 15th win. After the unsuccessful hat-trick against Rapid (1:2), Sturm Graz (2:2) and Salzburg, the Viennese now only have nine points from eight rounds.

Rapid only managed a 1-1 draw at home against LASK (1-0) and is now one point behind Sturm Graz. Guido Burgstaller gave the home team the lead in front of 21,300 spectators (27th), Robert Zulj equalized (46th). Rapid gave up points for the first time in their fifth league home game this season. Losing the league lead wasn’t the only bad news for the Hütteldorfers that evening. Isak Jansson, who had just recovered from a knee injury, had to leave the field injured about 20 minutes after being substituted on.
At least things remained quiet in the first game at the Allianz Stadium after the derby riots, with the exception of a cannon being thrown in the LASK sector before kick-off. During the break, Rapid’s management officials handed over 35,000 euros for flood relief to the “Austria helps Austria” initiative.
