In a turbulent Friday round of the ICE Ice Hockey League, Salzburg returned to winning ways with a 4-3 home win over EC VSV. In the 6th round, the KAC defeated the Black Wings Linz at home in a penalty shootout 5:4, while the Vienna Capitals lost at home once morest Fehervar 5:6 in overtime following leading 4:1. Graz also lost in extra time to the newly victorious Sharks following a goalless 60 minutes.

The Pioneers Vorarlberg, on the other hand, presented themselves confidently with a 7-1 away win in Ljubljana. With a 2-0 away win at HCB Südtirol, the Pustertal Wölfe not only retained their lead in the table, two points ahead of Salzburg, but are still the only ICE team undefeated.

After their first defeat of the season on Tuesday (1:2 once morest Innsbruck), Salzburg only set the course for victory with a double strike to make it 4:2 by Ryan Murphy (52nd) and Chay Genoway (55th). A late goal by Alexander Rauchwald (59′) mightn’t change that.

In Klagenfurt, the “Rotjackets” mightn’t feel safe in their duel with the Black Wings Linz following taking a 3-1 lead following 23 minutes. Lukas Haudum made it 3-1 and it was he who prevented the defeat with the goal to make it 4-4 in the 60th minute and forced extra time. But there was no celebration and so a penalty shootout had to be decided: Graham Knott missed the first penalty for the guests, Manuel Ganahl scored the decisive goal for the Carinthians following Brian Lebler had previously failed once morest KAC goalie Florian Vorauer.

The Vienna Capitals and Fehervar also had a special exchange of blows. The Viennese started with a double strike by Rok Ticar and Lukas Kainz within 38 seconds in the 4th and 5th minutes, Evan Weinger increased the score to 3-0. The home team pulled away to 4-1 by the 24th minute, but had to concede the equalizer in the second third. Leon Wallner put the Caps back in the lead in the 44th minute, but Joshua Atkinson equalized to make it 5-5. Janos Hari decided the match for the Hungarians in the second minute of overtime.

The Caps have not yet played the new offensive man Carsen Twarynski from Canada, who has 22 NHL games under his belt for the Philadelphia Flyers and was once a teammate of Michael Raffl.
