Salvador Pérez had an outstanding performance in the Kansas City Royals’ 10-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday in Major League Baseball (MLB).

The Venezuelan catcher hit a home run, drove in three runs and also reached 100 hits in the 2024 Major League season.

“Salvy” sent the homer through center field at Kauffman Stadium. It was in the third inning, with a teammate on base, and facing pitches from a fellow countryman, rookie Yilber Díaz.

In the 1st inning, the Carabobo native hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Bobby Witt Jr., which represented Kansas City’s tenth run.

Perez went 1-for-4 with a trio of RBIs and a run scored. Maikel Garcia finished 2-for-4 and stepped on the plate once. On the other side, Eugenio Suarez finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and Gabriel Moreno failed in three at-bats.

From the mound, starter Yilber Díaz took the loss. In three innings, he gave up nine hits, allowed seven runs, walked one and struck out one. After three starts, his record was 1-1.

100 hits

Pérez is the fifth Venezuelan to reach 100 hits or more during the current Major League season. The other four are Luis Arráez, José Altuve, Ezequiel Tovar and William Contreras.

It is also worth noting that Salvador Pérez has 13 seasons of experience in the Big Show, including the current one, and in 10 of them he has surpassed the 100-hit barrier. His peak was in 2021, when he recorded 169 hits.
