Salt is the Swiss operator that advances the most at Opensignal!

The Opensignal Global Awards are to be handled with care.

Salt should sparkle in 2023. Its mobile network is really progressing very quickly, as evidenced by the latest distinctions from Opensignal, a specialist in the evaluation of networks by customers. Salt appears in two categories, Swisscom in one while Sunrise is non-existent in the first part of the publication… Be careful not to read too quickly…

A quick reading of this new list of winners shows that Salt is Global Leader in categories upload, such as Swisscom. In addition, the Renens operator is positioned in the Rising Star category –Top 30 most improved 4G/5G coverage year on yearaccording to’ Opensignal Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2023 available online.

To put into perspective…

As a Salt employee pointed out to me, there is no trace of Sunrise in the various rankings in the first part of the document. At the very bottom of the PDF, however, we find the brand of the Liberty Global subsidiary alongside Salt and Swisscom. However, it is difficult to identify with these distinctions from Opensignal, of which here is an extract from the communication that was sent to me.

“Swisscom, Salt and Sunrise are recognized globally for the overall average download speeds seen by Opensignal users in 2e half of 2022. Swisscom and Salt are the global leaders for download speed experience — the second highest category, while Sunrise ranks a category lower as Global High Performer”.

Salt progresses the most.

“Among the three Swiss national operators, Swisscom received the most awards for its mobile experience on the 2e half of 2022. In addition to being a global leader for download speed experience, Swisscom is a Global High Performer in five categories: Video Experience, Games Experience, Download Speed Experience, Excellent Consistent Quality and Core Consistent Quality”.

Finally, “Salt is the only Swiss operator to be in the top 30 worldwide for percentage improvement in mobile experience in any category — it is a global rising star for time spent on 4G/5G, given an 8.1% increase in the proportion of time Opensignal users on its network spend connected to 4G or 5G between the 2e semesters 2021 and 2022.

In short, these rankings or these “awards” are always to be taken with some hindsight… Opensignal also specifies that “unlike the5G Global Awards, its February report examines its users’ overall mobile experience across all mobile network technologies. This means that these results are significantly different”…
