Hadi Matar, who repeatedly stabbed writer Salman Rushdie, pleaded not guilty to second degree murder on Saturday.

The 24-year-old appeared in Chautauqua County, New York.
He also faces other charges such as injuring a 73-year-old man, US news channel CNN reported.
He was denied release pending trial.
