Sales of advanced TVs succumb to the slump

Advanced televisions, which until now formed a buoyant market segment, are overtaken by the sluggishness of consumer electronics markets. According to figures from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), a firm specializing in flat screens, global sales fell in 2022 by 10% in volume, to 21.6 million units, and by 3% in value to 26 .4 billion dollars. A poor performance which is explained by the backlash of the sales boom during the Covid period in 2020 and 2021, as well as by the drop in purchasing power, and the rise in inflation, against a backdrop of deterioration in the general economic context.

DSCC defines advanced televisions as sets equipped with an OLED screen or an LCD screen enhanced by backlighting with quantum dots or MiniLEDs. The firm includes in this segment television sets with MicroLED screens, which Samsung is the only one to supply today to the general public for sizes from 88 to 110 inches.
