With its Galaxy S22+, Samsung offers a smartphone in the continuity of the S21+ released in 2021. There are few new features and the focus is on photography and performance. Two points, however, are far from perfect.
The Samsung Galaxy S22+ is a good smartphone. It excels in terms of screen, ergonomics – even if it may be too big for some hands – and hits the mark in terms of autonomy, revised upwards compared to the Galaxy S21 +. It is not, however, without flaws. The first concerns night photography (the famous “Nightography”) which remains far from the manufacturer’s promises. Then comes the performance of the Exynos 2200, still far from what we might have hoped for. After an Exynos 2100 which managed to reconcile us with SoCs made by Samsung, it is clear that 2022 will not see the birth of a Snapdragon version on the European market. As it stands, this S22+ does not demerit, but these two elements on which Samsung is betting strongly have not been able to convince us.
Points forts
- Elegant design.
- Still impressive screen.
- Certain daytime photographic versatility.
- Autonomy in clear progress.
- Fast charge (which would have benefited from being a little more in 45 W).
- Certification IP68.
Weak points
- Exynos 2200 disappointing.
- “Nightography” not living up to promises.
- Charges at 45W as fast as 25W.
NB: The reported price drop is calculated by comparing the lowest price of the day with the average of the lowest prices charged by all merchants for the product last month, with security rules to exclude prices from shops whose the VAT policy is not clear (known as “grey” shops, typically in the case of imports from China).
An alternative
Oppo’s Find X5 Pro is a very convincing successor to an already particularly successful Find X3 Pro. This smartphone does not show off in terms of photography, not playing the card of the number of megapixels, rather that of software processing. It succeeds and its ability to do well, even very well at both wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle, compensates for a slightly lower optical magnification than its direct competition. For the rest, the Find X5 Pro has a beautiful display, a power certainly not excessive, but sufficient, as well as a good autonomy (not to mention a very practical fast charge). With such a device, Oppo confirms that it deserves its place in the big leagues.
