The annual inflation rate should rise to 9.4% in 2022 and 6.5% in 2023, while the increase in the “health index”, which is used, among other things, to calculate the indexation of salaries, social allowances and rents, would reach 9.1% in 2022 and 7.0% in 2023, the Planning Office announced on Tuesday in its latest inflation forecasts.
The Planning Bureau expects the pivot index to be exceeded twice more this year, in October and December, and twice in 2023, in February and July.
The last crossing of the pivot index only dates back to last July. Consequently, social benefits and salaries in the civil service were increased by 2%, respectively in August and September. This year, the central index has already been exceeded three times: in February, April and July.
The Planning Bureau will publish its next inflation forecasts on 4 October.
