The excellent climate on Greece-Armenia relations and the will to further strengthen the cooperation between the two countries was confirmed during the meeting President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
As Mrs. Sakellaropoulou emphasized, the visit of the Prime Minister of Armenia to Greece “reflects the excellent level of our bilateral relations and the common will to strengthen our cooperation in all fields”.
He also reminded that “our two countries are linked by centuries-old bonds of friendship and mutual understanding. They cooperate constructively in international organizations and in this spirit we fully share your country’s interest in the protection of World Cultural Heritage monuments, within the framework of UNESCO”.
At the same time, he pointed out that “recognizing your reform efforts, Greece actively supports the strengthening of institutional dialogue and cooperation between the European Union and Armenia”.
He also underlined that “Greece is closely monitoring the developments in the Caucasus” and added that “from the very first moment, we expressed our solidarity with the people of Armenia, sending humanitarian aid to the thousands of displaced Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh”.
As the President stated, “a champion of international law and the resolution of disputes through dialogue, my country deplores the use of force and supports the holding of talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the aim of achieving a just and lasting peace and building good relations neighborhood”.
Concluding, he noted that “recognizing your efforts to achieve peace, even under adverse conditions, I welcome you once more to Athens”.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, following thanking the President of the Republic for the warm welcome and her warm words, emphasized that between Greece and Armenia there are age-old ties of friendship, such as in the fields of Politics and Culture, and supported that the two peoples are also connected emotionally.
In particular, he said that “this emotional relationship between our two peoples was also expressed during the violent displacement of my compatriots from Nagorno-Karabakh and the sending of humanitarian aid from Greece, for which I thank you very much. I express my joy for the fact that during the last 33 years we have deepened our interstate relations”.
He also underlined that “this historical relationship and cooperation of ours is also deepening in the field of democratic reforms. Greece is our ally and partner in the European Union, which actively contributes to the course of democratic reforms in my country.”
Subsequently, he stated that “Greece supports Armenia not only in the area of these reforms. I would like to emphasize and thank for the fact that in the context of the mission of the observers of the European Union, representatives of Greece also participate. Thank you for that too.”
Finally, he expressed the hope that during his visit to Athens, the agenda will include the bilateral relations between Armenia and Greece, our relations with the European Union, as well as regional issues and current issues of international politics.
