A roof fire broke out on Friday followingnoon at the Sainte-Anne Saint-Rémi clinic, in the Brussels municipality of Anderlecht, Brussels firefighters said. The flames were extinguished and no injuries were reported. However, some ongoing medical operations had to be interrupted.
The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. When the firefighters arrived at the clinic, located on Boulevard Jules Graindor in Anderlecht, they noticed that the fire was destroying the roof of a room located in the operating area. Some ongoing medical operations had to be halted while firefighters battled the blaze.
“Two people, who were undergoing surgery on the first floor of the hospital, were evacuated from the operating room as a safety measure“, confirmed the Sainte-Anne Saint-Rémi clinic.
In the meantime, the fire spread along the false ceiling of the building, also spreading smoke inside the establishment. The firefighters therefore dismantled part of the roof in order to put out all the fires.
“The fire was completely extinguished and our teams covered the damaged part of the roof and removed the firefighting water.“, informed the spokesperson for the Brussels firefighters, Walter Derieuw. “In the followingnoon, work was carried out on the roof. It is possible that this was the cause of the fire, but there is no clarification on this yet” he clarified.
The Saint-Anne Saint-Rémi clinic states that “everything is in order“.
