The Églantiers schoolchildren in Uccle received a visit from Saint-Nicolas this Wednesday. Arriving escorted by three police officers on motorcycles, the Great Saint was well installed, not on the back of his donkey but… in the back of a convertible Porsche.
A situation which did not fail to provoke reactions on social networks. “It’s hypercaricatural. In a green municipality like Uccle where we are being given lessons with the climate plan and in the midst of COP28, it is in bad taste and bling-bling,” laments, not without a smile, Défi municipal councilor Emmanuel De Bock.
The event is actually organized by the parents’ association. “Saint-Nicolas has been arriving in a convertible at this school for years,” says the commune. “For the police, it’s a request from the school so that there are sirens. It warns of the arrival of Saint Nicholas and the little ones are also happy to see the agents. The police were mobilized for less than 10 minutes for this.”
In short, we risk seeing the bling-bling Saint Nicholas once more in the coming years.
