The body of a 27-year-old man who jumped into the Jourdain River in Saint-Lin-Laurentides to escape police overnight was found on Monday followingnoon.
According to the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), Sûreté du Québec agents tried to intercept the suspect around 1:20 a.m. because he was driving with his headlights off.
Rather than stop, the 27-year-old fled, triggering a short police chase.
This took a completely different turn when the man decided to abandon his car in a residence entrance to go and throw himself into the Jordan River.
“The driver would have stopped regarding a kilometer further, in the parking lot of a residence on 12e Avenue in Saint-Lin–Laurentides. He then got out of his vehicle and fled on foot before jumping into the nearby river,” the BEI reported.
The man reportedly called for help shortly following falling in the water, but police quickly lost sight of him. Searches were therefore started during the night and continued Monday morning on and around the river, with the contribution of the fire department and police, until the discovery of the body of the individual.
