Saint Etienne. The Stéphanois Cancer Plan is officially launched

“This plan is the result of a collective reflection in which all the Stéphanoises and Stéphanois were involved”, underlined the mayor, Gaël Perdriau, at the time of officially launching the Municipal Cancer PlanFriday followingnoon, at La Comète.

The elected official was surrounded for the occasion by MEP and oncologist Véronique Trillet-Lenoir and by Professor Daniel Nizri, president of the National League once morest Cancer.

Gaël Perdriau recalled the means used to develop this Cancer Plan, the fruit of two years’ work. It was established on the basis of the report by Professor Franck Chauvin, director of prevention and population health at the Saint-Étienne University Hospital, but also thanks to hearings with associations, users and health professionals, and to a consultation platform for residents.

These hearing and consultation phases, around eight themes, will also provide the basis for writing a concrete action plan that will be put in place from the end of 2022.

Concrete prevention actions

The mayor emphasized the “going towards” approach of this Cancer Plan, aimed at combating social inequalities in access to care in the Saint-Etienne territory.

Concrete actions are planned, such as the deployment of prevention buses to meet the inhabitants or the installation of health centers for screening in particular. A full day open to the general public was organized on Place Jean-Jaurès, where a “prevention village” with themed events awaited visitors.

In the evening, Professor Chauvin hosted a conference at La Comète on cancer prevention, followed by a discussion on the theme “City, cancer and well-being”, one of the major axes of municipal policy.
