Sails.. The death of a Tunisian player after her boat sank during training

The Tunisian Ministry of Youth and Sports announced, on Sunday, the death of the Tunisian sailing team player, Aya Kazekz, following her boat sank during exercises.

This came in a brief statement, which was published on the official page of the ministry on Facebook, according to the Anatolia correspondent.

Aya Qazqaz (16 years old) was training a league with her twin sister, Sarah, who escaped drowning following the training boat capsized due to strong winds, according to what Firas Qadana, a player for the Tunisian sailing team, confirmed in a Facebook post.

The Tunisian player was the youngest member of the team participating in the Tokyo 2020 + Olympics, where she participated with her sister in the doubles competitions for sails.

An official at the Ministry of Youth and Sports told Anadolu Agency, “An investigation will be opened to uncover the circumstances of the incident.”

The official, who declined to be named as he was not authorized to speak with the media, added that “the incident is unfortunate and is a loss for Tunisian sport in general, and sailing sport in particular, and the matter should not pass without identifying those responsible.”
