See the finish and the confusion after the Swedish Olympic silver in the player above.
– I am so happy and proud and a little empty of all the tension that has drained from my body and we did what we could today, says Vilma Bobeck to SVT Sport on the sandy beach after the medal race and is supported by Rebecca Netzler wrapped in the Swedish flag.

Did you ever think you struck gold?
– No, I’m quite bad at calculating to be honest and I fully trust Wilma and we won the race and what happened behind we couldn’t influence. We are so happy with this medal and to get it together, says Netzler.

“I was as surprised as everyone else”
The big talking point was the confusion after the finish.
– I was as surprised as everyone else and saw that there was a different finish line on the TV broadcasts and that there was a ship that they thought was the finish line image, says Swedish national team captain Magnus Grävare to SVT Sport.
A Swedish voice in Max’s broadcast was heard shouting that the Dutch had won bronze, which in that case opened the way for a Swedish gold, but Grävare denies that it was he who shouted.
– No, I listened to the English broadcast and it was quite clear, says Grävare.
Silver i sin OS-debut
The Dutch crew had a stop just before the finish, where they probably saw the ship and steered wrong, but bailed out and finished third, securing the gold. If they finished fifth or worse, it would have meant Swedish gold.
There was great confusion for a couple of minutes when it was unclear how the medals were distributed and whether the Dutch crew rode correctly or were to be punished.
The Swedes cheered as they crossed the finish line as winners in the final medal race and took Sweden’s fifth medal in the Olympics, this in their Olympic debut. The French duo who went out in the lead had to settle for a bronze.
The competition was decided in Marseille Marina on the Mediterranean coast.
