“Sahrawis from Polisario manipulating Mauritania’s electoral process: Reports”

Many “Sahrawis” members of the Polisario are heading for their country of origin, Mauritania, to take part in the legislative, regional and municipal elections to manipulate part of the Mauritanian political class.

Mauritania is preparing for legislative elections from May 13 to 27, to elect the 176 members of the National Assembly of Mauritania, one year before the presidential election. The stakes of this election are important for Mauritanians, but even more so for those who are considered to be from the Sahara.

“Local sources in northern Mauritania have reported a significant increase in the number of Sahrawis crossing the common border between the Algerian state of Tindouf and the Mauritanian state of Tiris-Azemmour (Zouerat)”, indicated the site of Mauritanian information Anbaainfo.

They come from Tindouf in Algeria, to vote in Mauritania. Members of the Polisario militia are mobilizing to influence the course of the elections and vote for candidates close to the movement and close to Algeria.

The Polisario, the separatist militia created and financed by Algeria to amputate Morocco from the Sahara, encourages Sahrawis who hold Mauritanian identity documents to go to northern Mauritania in order to participate in the elections by voting for candidates from left, known to support separatist theses in the region, indicates the Mauritanian media.

For many years, the inhabitants of the Tindouf camps have been participating in the elections in Mauritania in order to keep control of this country, the fourth party in the Sahara file. This return to the fold at each electoral ballot explains the entanglements of the Sahara issue, and especially the genetic manipulation of the Sahrawi population, created upstream by Algeria.

Morocco has constantly alerted the international community to this exercise in ethnic change carried out by Algeria since 1976. The Sahrawi populations originating from Morocco and captive in the Tindouf camps in Algeria have in fact become a minority compared Mauritanians, Algerians from the south, Malians and Nigeriens, settled with the Sahrawis in the camps.

Over the years, the Polisario leadership has implemented a strategy of ethnic mixing between these populations and has ordered women to give birth as much as possible in order to send their children to be trained for war and ultimately to swell the number. populations with a view to a possible referendum on self-determination.

At the same time, Algeria, which is piloting this operation, categorically refuses to carry out an identification and census of the populations of the Tindouf camps by the UN, despite a call to this effect from Morocco and contained in the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

The return of Mauritanians from the Tindouf camps is therefore natural for them, and they do so several days in advance to prepare for it. According to Anbaainfo, “most of them (the “Sahrawis” from the Tindouf camps, editor’s note) have Mauritanian civil status documents, in particular a passport and a national identity card”.

One wonders why “most” of the residents of the Tindouf camps have Mauritanian nationality when they are considered in the eyes of the international community as originating from the former Spanish colony called “Western Sahara”, a territory returned under Moroccan sovereignty in 1975 with the Green March.

Moreover, these elections in Mauritania are considered by many “Sahrawis” captive in the Tindouf camps as an opportunity to flee to settle temporarily in Mauritania before organizing “a return to Morocco”, indicates Anbaainfo.

“Sahrawi sources said that more than 6,000 Sahrawis living in the Tindouf camps had previously taken advantage of the opportunity to vote in the Mauritanian elections so as not to return to what these sources called “the hell of the Tindouf camps”. , says the news site.
