The Security Council will meet during this month to discuss the Moroccan Sahara issue at a time when the Kingdom has made dazzling breakthroughs, thus making the autonomy plan the one and only solution to end the conflict.

The daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia reports, in its edition of Tuesday, April 5, that during this meeting, scheduled for April 20, the Security Council will hear a briefing by the President of Minurso Alexander Ivanko as well as that of the personal envoy of the UN SG, Staffan From Mistura. The holding of this meeting will strengthen the Moroccan proposal which has been consolidated by favorable positions taken by several influential countries.

The first breakthrough comes from Spain, whose head of government Pedro Sanchez has described Morocco’s autonomy plan as the most serious solution to resolve this dispute. Coming from the former colonizer of the Moroccan Sahara, this position is considered a historic turning point in this file which has long been manipulated by Algeria. Moreover, Pedro Sanchez’s letter addressed to King Mohammed VI on this subject stunned the Algerian military junta, which recalled its ambassador to Madrid, proving, without its own knowledge, that it is the party most concerned by the Sahara conflict. .

The daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia reports that the second novelty in this dossier comes from Germany. The leaders of this country, following the departure of Angela Merkel, put an end to the crisis with Morocco by considering the Moroccan autonomy plan as the key to resolving the conflict in the region. Here too the Algerian leaders have lost an “ally”.

The third breakthrough even comes from the Tindouf camps where Sahrawi organizations have expressed their acceptance of the Moroccan autonomy plan. The Khat Achahid current was the first to approve this proposal just following the publication of the press release from the Spanish government recognizing the Moroccanity of the Sahara.

The positions of Spain and Germany completely changed the situation. They were preceded by the recognition by the United States of the Moroccanness of the Sahara. A recognition that was confirmed by the Biden administration with the strengthening of military cooperation and the organization of “African Lion” military maneuvers in the Moroccan Sahara to the west of the Polisario camps in Tindouf.

This change in the balance of power in the region was confirmed by the creation of a new alliance comprising Morocco, the United States, Egypt, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
