Safe win against Augsburg – Adler Mannheim

The Adler Mannheim also won the second of three consecutive home games. Head coach Dallas Eakins’ team celebrated a secure 6:1 against Augsburg. The goalscorers for the Eagles were Yannick Proske, Tom Kühnhackl, Leon Gawanke, Matthias Plachta, Luke Esposito and Daniel Fischbuch.

Augsburg were there right from the start, but the guests lacked the final precision for long stretches of the first half. The Eagles, on the other hand, were significantly more effective. The first completed attack brought the lead, Yannick Proske scored in the follow-up to make it 1-0 (3rd). With the home team in the majority, they had the chance to extend their lead, but Kristian Reichel deflected a shot just wide of the goal (12th). Luke Esposito also missed the 2-0 when he didn’t hit the puck fully on a follow-up shot in front of the open goal (14th). Tom Kühnhackl did better, who only had to score to make the score 2-0 at halftime (15th) after fantastic preparatory work from Markus Hännikäinen.

In the second period, the Eagles dominated the game for long stretches. It only took 158 seconds before Leon Gawanke made it 3-0 with precision from the high slot. Jason Bast could have shortened the score, but his shot went parallel to the goal line out of the danger zone (26th). John Gilmour missed the 4-0 from close range, but Matthias Plachta was ultimately responsible for Mannheim’s fourth goal (29th). When the Eagles failed to get the puck out of their own third, Thomas Schemitsch took advantage of the disorder to make it 1:4 (32′). But the Eagles found the right answer less than two minutes later. Esposito held the ladle to a sharp cross from Cicek (33′) – 5:1 after 40 minutes.

In the final third, both teams noticeably slowed down due to the score. The Eagles controlled the action without exerting much offensive pressure. Nevertheless, Daniel Fischbuch managed to make the final score 6-1 (56th) after a remarkable individual effort from Kris Bennett.
