A transgender couple in India, who drew attention on social media by publishing photos of their husband’s full-term pregnancy, gave birth safely.
On the 7th (local time), the British BBC introduced the story of a transgender couple, Ziya Paval (21) and Zahad (23).
Pabal, who was male at birth, now identifies herself as female. Zahard, who was born female, now considers herself male.
According to the BBC, the couple decided to have a baby regarding 18 months ago. After that, the hormone treatment necessary for the sex change process was also stopped.
Zahard was undergoing gender transition from female to male, but was able to conceive because her ovaries and uterus had not yet been removed.
Because of this, the ‘husband’s full-term picture’ was possible.
“Once you give birth, you can resume sex hormone therapy,” said Dr. Mahes, an endocrinologist in Bangalore.
This picture, which Pabal posted on his Instagram, created a huge topic in the Indian community.
It received 20,000 ‘likes’ and more than 1,000 congratulatory comments.
“It’s very rare in India,” the couple said. “As far as we know, no transgender person identifies as their biological parent.”
Zahard said, “I will go to work in regarding two months following the baby is born,” and “following that, I will take care of the baby.”
And on the 8th, a new life finally came into their arms. It was a month earlier than originally scheduled.
On this day, Pabal posted a picture holding the baby’s small hand on Instagram and wrote, “A 2.92kg baby was born safely at 9:37 am this morning,” and wrote, “Thank you to everyone who was by my side.”
The baby’s gender was not revealed.
