“I’m lost for words”
Mané commented on the award as follows: “I am very happy regarding this award. I would like to thank the President of the Senegalese FA, my coach, my teammates at club and national team level and my family in Senegal. I’m so touched that I don’t have the words to express myself.”
In addition to the personal honor for Mané, the Senegalese national team, with FCB pro Bouna Sarr and Mané, was also voted Africa’s team of the year.
The African Footballer of the Year award has been presented by the African Football Confederation (CAF) since 1992. The record holders, each with four awards, are Samuel Eto’o from Cameroon and Yaya Touré from the Ivory Coast.
