18 horse saddles were stolen from the Ste Hermelle Sport Horses stable in Gouy-lez-Piéton. The loot amounts to nearly €50,000. The owners, who contacted us via the orange button Alert ussuspect an organized gang.
The thieves arrived by the meadows to steal 18 saddles, all those of the breeding. From 4,000 to 7,000€ each, some were made to measure. Adeline Lefevre, the owner, suspects an organized gang: “They only stole the saddles, so I think they were a well-rehearsed team.“She reassures herself all the same:”Luckily, they didn’t hit the horses.“
The horse world is worried. In Wallonia, four stables were visited this weekend. According to Adeline, the stolen material might be abroad. The reason? “The theft is targeted and all saddles have a serial number.“Result: impossible to sell to professionals in Belgium. For purchases between individuals, a call for vigilance is launched.
While waiting to find out more, in Gouy-lez-Piéton, you have to organize yourself to work without the stolen equipment. “We don’t know how to ride our horses, we can’t train them, we can’t welcome customers for trials. The consequences are huge“, regrets the owner.
With recent events, stables, farms and riding schools are getting organized to increase their level of security.
