Negotiations for a ceasefire
Hundreds of Hamas fighters committed atrocities primarily against civilians, killing about 1,160 people and kidnapping and taking around 250 hostages to the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli figures. Since then, the Israeli army has been carrying out massive attacks in the Gaza Strip with the declared aim of destroying Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is now planning a ground offensive around the city of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip. Negotiations are ongoing in parallel about a ceasefire and the release of the remaining 130 Hamas hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
