Sad news. The Argentine theater mourns the premature death of Julieta Vallina

Julieta Vallina was an intense, sensitive actress who traveled through alternative, commercial or official theater with a recognized acting capacity. He also used to participate in some research processes with different creators. He died a few hours ago in Buenos Aires, the victim of a terminal illness. The news is extremely surprising. Until a few weeks ago you might see it in i hear itunder the direction of Carlos Olivieri, at the Metropolitan Sura theater, sharing the stage with Jorge Suárez and Gabriel ‘Puma’ Goity. As in all the shows in which he was a part, he did it with outstanding histrionics.

Julieta was born in La Plata and, from a very young age, she felt attracted to artistic activity. Undoubtedly the influence of her father, Carlos Vallina, renowned filmmaker, critic and teacher at the National University of La Plata, influenced her vocation. And above all, a theatrical universe from La Plata that, in the 80s, was reborn with force following going through the civic-military dictatorship. At that time the city was severely punished and not only on an artistic level. Years later she recognized that something regarding the theater attracted her, she liked to do imitations and I felt a deep admiration for the creations of Niní Marshall. He had his first experiences with a director who, at that time, was very prominent for his research work, not only at the acting level but also in space, Quico Garciain an emblematic spectacle, Mad, in the disappeared Princesa theater.

His first steps in art were in the field of drawing and painting. She studied visual arts at the UNLP and at the same time at the Theater School in his hometown where he graduated from the Acting Training and Theater Teaching degree.

She arrived in Buenos Aires and settled in the town of Tigre because at that time she worked as a puppeteer, actress and, sometimes, a dancer in the Parque de la Costa, a task that at first she did not like to mention very much but which, later, she felt proud. In that space, she came into greater contact with artistic activity and that allowed her to establish herself as an actress and dare to enter the professional field of Buenos Aires.

His first experience in Buenos Aires was with the group El Periferico deObjects in Monteverdi, method of warfare. This work not only allowed him to join one of the most outstanding companies at the time in Argentina, but also to go on tours participating in various international festivals.

Since then his career has had a remarkable rise. He worked under the orders of directors such as Daniel Veronese (Women dreamed of horses, A drowning man, He spies on a woman who kills herself, God’s committee), Jose Maria Muscari (Electra Shok, Fetish, Raw Beauty), Luciano Suardi (Roots, Three Sisters, The Bread of Madness, The Pit), Javier Daulte (4D Optical, Macbeth, The Upstairs Neighbors), Mariano Pensotti (When I return home I will be another, The past is a grotesque animal), Mariana Obersztern (Inspiration), Ana Alvarado (Balm), Manuel Gonzalez Gil (like the ass).

On television she might be seen in projects such as Stolen lives, The donor, Crazy for you (Telephone), or Compulsive times, The fragility of bodies, I want to live by your side, Your part of the deal (The thirteen). He also participated in the web series According to Roxy, a creation of a theater colleague from La Plata, Azul Lombardía. She was also part of the cast of Santa Evitawhich will soon air on Star+.

In cinema, Julieta Vallina made her debut in 2006 in the custodiana film by Rodrigo Moreno and was followed by, among others: Cowboy by Juan Minujin The dead man tells his story by Fabián Forte; terrified, by Demián Rugna; The flower, by Mariano Llinás; El Potro, the best of loveby Lorena Muñoz, among others.

The pandemic was not an impediment for Vallina to continue producing. She continued giving acting classes, a task that although she was not willing to do at first, she gradually developed with deep interest. She also streamed experiences like inquiries regarding love and participated in Survival Guide, a series starring Esteban Bigliardi and Dolores Fonzi that might be seen on MoviStar Play. The filming was done by each actor in his own home.

On various occasions she was nominated for the ACE, Florencio Sánchez, Teatro del Mundo and Clarín awards.

Julieta Vallina always kept a very low profile. On stage she demonstrated her art and always with a delivery that caused deep admiration among viewers and critics. She an important reference of her generation that we will miss a lot. A woman who, as an actress, knew how to put the body to each character that she recreated and she always did it with great wisdom.
