Injuries obstructed him
Veteran Swiss tennis player Roger Federer announced his retirement from the game on Thursday, saying that next week’s Laver Cup would be his last tournament, capping a golden era that spanned 24 years with more than 1,500 matches.
In recent years, injuries have hampered Federer’s career, who dominated men’s tennis following winning his first major title at Wimbledon 2003.
He underwent three surgeries in the last two years, and his last match in the professional championships was a defeat by Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon 2021.
