Sabrent HB-TC5P USB-C Hub review: the essentials, no more and no less

To test this USB-C hub, we connected a 4K display, an external Crucial X8 SSD and a Logitech Unify dongle to it. It’s all powered by a 100W USB-C charger, with the hub powering our test PC.

The two USB 2.0 ports display read and write speeds close to 40 MB / s, therefore in line with the standard adopted. These sockets will above all be used to connect a keyboard, a mouse or a headset, for example. Small surprise on the other hand concerning the USB 3.0 port: we should normally obtain approximately 500 MB/s real since it is a port capable of reaching 5 Gb/s. However, the speeds reached by our Crucial X8 are a little higher than 1000 MB / s in reading or writing, i.e. the speeds of a USB 3.2 Gen2 port of 10 Gb / s. Surprising, but always good to take!

Connected to our Philips display in 4K, the refresh rate does not exceed 30 Hz. 60 Hz is only possible in 1920 x 1080 px. Thus, switching to a higher definition will automatically lower the refresh to 30 Hz. Suffice to say that the use of this hub is limited to 1080p screens, the refresh rate of 30 Hz on a screen with a higher definition being particularly unpleasant.
