If he were healthy, Joel Edmundson would certainly be traded by the Canadiens. After all, he has what it takes to help a good NHL team advance in the playoffs and his contract ($3.5M per year for another 17 months) is affordable.
But his injury changes everything.

It is unclear if he will be traded at the deadline as his health issues (mainly his back) still play tricks. It is therefore not known if a formation will want to take a chance with him.
It is still too early to tell.
But until then, the teams must still inquire regarding his availability in order to prepare for the possibility that he may leave by March 3. And clearly, many teams are calling.
We already know that the Bruins, Oilers, Kings and Capitals are among the teams that have an interest in the one who has already won the Stanley Cup in 2019 in Saint-Louis.
But can we add the name of the Sabers to the lot?
Dan Rosen, an NHL reporter, linked the Sabers’ name to the Canadiens defenseman when he was asked which defenseman might fill a need on the Buffalo side.

Why Edmundson, whose back pain was not mentioned in the paper in question?
Because the defender’s contract does not expire. Because the price would certainly not be too high for a club that is not looking for a top defender. Because he would fill a direct need on the ice.
The journalist raises the possibility of seeing a first choice going to Montreal, but at the same time, he wonders if a second choice might be enough to uproot him from Montreal in view of the 2023 and 2024 playoffs – if the Sabers make them, of course.
It will continue to cause a lot of ink to flow, this file.
