A 28-year-old German was driving at excessive speed around 11:10 p.m. in the city of Saalfelden on Wednesday evening. At an intersection, he was no longer able to slow down his car sufficiently and crashed into a tree. The force of the impact threw the driver and his 23-year-old Austrian passenger’s head once morest the windshield.
Both car occupants were not wearing seat belts and the airbags did not deploy. They were injured to an unspecified degree and taken to the Tauern Clinic in Zell am See by the rescue team. An alcohol mat test carried out on the accident driver resulted in a value of 0.34 per mille.
