Saab rejects Quintero’s statement about Macuro: “She should not be called Venezuelan”

The Prosecutor appointed by the Constituent Assembly, Tarek William Saab, rejected the way in which journalist Valentina Quintero expressed herself regarding her trip to Macuro, a town in the state of Sucre.

In a video that went viral, Quintero said it was “the worst” trip of his life, where he used vulgarities to refer to the town.

Quintero, during his appearance on a podcast, answered the question of what was the most horrible place he had visited in Venezuela so far: “Macuro, its only merit is because Christopher Columbus arrived there on his first trip to Venezuela, that’s crap (…), that has been the worst trip of my life”.

Saab, through his X account, expressed his rejection of Quintero’s response, although he did not mention it explicitly.

Anyone who calls a noble and hard-working people of our country a piece of shit does not deserve to be called Venezuelan. The contempt of being called a Persona Non Grata by said region is already more than enough.“, he said.

Following the rejection of the journalist’s statements by users on social media, she publicly apologized.

I wholeheartedly apologize to the inhabitants and natives of Macuro for having offended them, for having hurt their feelings, by telling of my experience in this town 25 years ago.“, commented the journalist who has been in charge of documenting several remote towns in Venezuela.

After expressing her regret on social media, Valentina Quintero gave a radio interview in which she returned to the subject until she was in tears.

«I should not have spoken regarding any town as I did regarding Macuro, I feel responsible for that.“She said, but she rejected the “merciless” way she was treated on social media.

Despite what has happened, he assures that he will not stop making complaints.A group is not going to determine what I am going to do with my life. Which is to travel around Venezuela, show it, and when I have to criticize something I have to criticize it but not in that way.«.

The journalist recently reported on the lack of gasoline in the town of Timotes, where they survive from agriculture. This happens everywhere except in Caracas. I said it because I experienced it, because it was irrefutable.«.

He denied being accused of receiving benefits for speaking regarding one place or another. If it were like that, I wouldn’t be 30 years into this. I would have been kicked out of everywhere. But in this (what happened with Macuro) it hurt me, I regretted it, I felt deeply saddened to have done it, I care and that’s why I wanted us to talk.«.
