SA vs IND | Auto, not auto; Controversy over Van der Dasson’s catch; Video – News18 Malayalam

Controversy erupts over Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant’s catch off Rassie van der Dussen off Shardul Thakur on the second day of the second Test once morest South Africa (SA vs IND) at Wanderers.

On the second day, just before lunch, Van der Dasson was out in an over thrown by Shardul. Rishabh, who went behind the wicket as the inside edge of the South African batsman’s ball, kept the ball in his hands. As soon as the Indian players appealed, the field umpire ruled out and Van der Dasson returned without reviewing the umpire’s decision. He scored just one run off 17 balls.

But when the wicket’s replay was later shown on TV, it was seen that Rishabh had dropped the ball before it was caught and this led to controversy. In the replays from the front, it was clear that the ball had landed. Meanwhile, in replays from the side, the ball was seen going straight into Rishabh’s hands.

During the lunch break, South African captain Dean Elgar and the team manager went to the umpires’ room to talk when it became clear that the ball had landed on the replays. However, the third umpire decided to keep the decision of the field umpire as it was not clear what hit the ball on the ground. With this, the possibility of Van Durdsson batting once more following lunch was over. If it was clear that the ball had hit the ground, the third umpire would have given fielding captain KL Rahul a chance to recall the South African.

The South African’s dismissal has sparked controversy in the cricketing world. Former India captain and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has said that the decision of the field umpire will remain the same as it was not clear whether the ball hit the ground or not.

Meanwhile, South Africa, who started the second day at 35 for one, were bowled out for 228. South Africa took a 26-run lead in the first innings. India won the toss and elected to field. Shardul took seven wickets for 61 runs in 17.5 overs.
